NATHAN MABRY: BIRD WATCHERS
Hotel Bel Air
June 19 - October 4, 2026
Placed throughout the grounds of the iconic Hotel Bel-Air, NATHAN MABRY: Bird Watchers operates as both a sculptural intervention and an experiential narrative. Here, the artist rethinks classical statuary. The legacy of modern, postwar, and pop sculpture is remixed into works that merge industrial metal components with stylized avian figures. Infused with wit and tension, these assemblages introduce an intentional play between permanence and improvisation, destabilizing traditional conventions.
The project unfolds as a sculptural scavenger hunt. Subtle objects integrated into the hotel's dense foliage reward close looking with moments of intimate discovery, while monumental assemblages serve as landmarks throughout the historic property. Collectively, these brightly colored works activate the environment, complicating expectations of material while celebrating chance encounters.
