ALEJANDRO DIAZ: A R C H E O L O G I E

Royale Projects presented the gallery’s second solo exhibition by New York-based artist, Alejandro Diaz. In his exhibition Archeologie, Diaz takes a wry look at how societal views toward art have shifted from beauty and content to price and status. He explores the connections of primitive art, modernism, surrealism, pop and contemporary art. He uproots folk traditions, repositions them, and arranges and reinterprets other artworks, styles, and artists' identities. In Archeologie, Diaz confronts and pokes at today's social, cultural, and economic registers that surround a work of art. The hand-woven wool tapestry featured in Archeologie titled "This is Not a Calder" will be showcased in a solo exhibition at the San Antonio-based Linda Pace Foundation titled It Takes a Village: New Work by Alejandro Diaz (April 18 - September 12, 2015).
